Bradford Skyline

The city of Bradford now has a significant Muslem population, and this is having an impact on the skyline. Here the dome and towers of a mosque can be seen over the treetops in the park where my grandson and I spent quite a lot of time on Monday.

What is interesting about Bradford and immigration is that it has been a feature of the city for over 150 years. In the mid 1800s a significant influx of German immigrants led to part of the city centre being known as 'Little Germany'. More recently, after World War 2, substantial numbers from Eastern Europe settled here, while later settlers from Pakistan arrived, with more recently a new influx from Eastern Europe and the Middle East arrived.

So, we can probably expect more changes to the skyline, reflecting the many cultures in this city.

It's a great photo Ian... but I still prefer the 'dark satanic mills'!

I like the photo of the Mosque and find your narrative interesting. we've a town close by also called Bradford and it's the Dutch who settled there. mostly farmers...the Holland Marsh, a very fertile area, is adjacent to it.

Thank you all for your comments on this new part of the Bradford skyline. It was interesting to stay in the city and meet a few of the locals while taking my grandson to the park. The recent bad press that Moslems have received as a result of terrorist attacks in Europe were in stark contrast to the friendliness of those that I met while there.

How the (western) world has changed. I was amazed even when I was there in the late 1980s to see the clothing in the streets.
