Beside the cycle path between Wetherby and Spofforth, and the place that I sat for my picnic lunch.
The black ends of this bench are roughly in the shape of Britain, but they aren't very accurate.
The bench itself is a memorial bench with a plaque in memory of Brian Loy 1928-2000 who in spite of terminal cancer trained along this track before cycling from Lands End to Lohn O'Groats to raise money for BESO - British Executive Service Overseas.
Am continuously delighted to see 'ordinary people' being recognised for public services rendered. Our world would be a far sadder place without their commitment. May it be that we make every effort we can to continue and encourage such commitment.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It is nice to see memorials and other features along the cycle routes built on disused railways. Without such attractive items the routes can be a bit tedious, since they are essentially long straight routes, and these features do add variety. This bench is a bit neglected, and vegetation is encroaching a bit, but it did make a nice rest stop.
