Riverside Reflections by fishers

Riverside Reflections

It’s hard to believe that only six days before this shot was taken, the River Ouse had been high enough to flood the area around the trees. It is now back to normal levels and smooth and calm, giving lovely reflections.

Although the buildings in this shot were built as houses, many of them have been converted to small hotels or guest houses. Once often affected by flooding, a flood wall in front of them, with large grey flood gates for access, has provided effective protection from the floods for around 25 years.

Back home at last, and a big thank you for all your lovely comments and favs for this shot, which put it on the trending page!

While away, I did spend some time taking photos around Rotherham, as well as spending a lot of time visiting my mum in hospital, so there are a number of shots to come from the Rotherham area over the next few days. My mum sends a big thank you for all your concern, and so do I.

@tonydebont

Quite right Tony, usually the floods arrive some 24-48 hours after heavy rain in the Yorkshire Dales. The rivers Swale, Ure and Nidd join to form the River Ouse north of York and then pass through the city centre. The flood often receeds after about 2 days, although some floods are longer lasting.
