Yesterday's shot had a pub sign for the 'Hole in the Wall'. This shot shows part of the building illustrated on the pub sign.
St Mary's Abbey is a ruined Benedictine abbey in the Museum Gardens in York, and a Grade I listed building. The abbey has a long and complicated history. It was founded in 1088 by a group of monks that came to York from Lastingham (in the southern part of the North York Moors). It eventually became very wealthy, being the largest and richest Benedictine establishment in the north of England and one of the largest landholders in Yorkshire.
Like many other such locations it was closed by Henry VIII at the Dissolution of the Monasteries around 1539, and was subsequently largely destroyed, although there are other buildings close by which were part of the abbey complex that are still in use.
The ruins today form an interesting and attractive feature of the Museum Gardens.
Yesterday night we had frost and snow. To day it`s all gone and temp. of nearly 10 Celc
