Holy Trinity Church in Hull is a beautiful old building. It is the largest parish church in England by floor area. The church dates back to about 1300 and contains some of the finest mediaeval brick-work in the country, particularly in the transepts. Holy Trinity Church is now a Grade I listed building.
In November 2014 plans were unveiled to reorder the church, creating a venue for performances, exhibitions and banquets, a visitor destination, and a place where those in need of help can find assistance. The aim is to create a place for the whole community, and a venue that will be a driving force in the regeneration of Hull's Old Town. The transformation, costing a total of £4.5 million, is taking place in phases from 2016 onwards, the first being ready for UK City of Culture in 2017.
Sadly, I was unable to get into the church during my visit to Hull, since work in the building is still in progress. There was a lot of clutter outside the church too as work is also taking place around the building. So, to get a shot free of building work, I took this of it's reflection in an office block to the east.
It's giving off a wonderful glow, although judging by the 'mirror', the light looks occluded. I think I speak for many when I say that I thoroughly enjoy your sorties through your daily summaries on 365. Long may it continue.
Wow, fantastic reflection. You managed to capature almost all the features of this beautiful building. Thank you for the story - very interesting. Fav.
I'm stunned by the very positive response to this shot - so many comments and favs, and all greatly appreciated. Your generosity put the shot on the Popular Page.
Sorry for the delay in responding, but we have been away for a couple of days - photos from or trip will be posted!
I hope to get a further trip to Hull before too long, and hopefully get inside this church for a better look round. On of the amazing things about Hull was the huge amounts of building and restoration work currently taking place. Good to see such positive signs of regeneration!
