Danby Moors Centre, Eskdale by fishers

Danby Moors Centre, Eskdale

Last weekend was very frustrating - the first weekend of this summer's Moorsbus service from York and I had a heavy cold, so Katharine had a trip on her own (see Lastingham photos from earlier in the week). I'm still not fully recovered so I had a gentle afternoon trip over the moor tops into Eskdale and to the Moors Centre near Danby village in Eskdale.

The Moors Centre is housed in an old shooting lodge that belonged to the Danby Estate, owned by the Dawnay family. The core of the building is a 17th century farmhouse, transformed in the 18th century into a lodge for the Dawneys and their guests to enjoy grouse shooting on the nearby moors.

Today there is a gift shop, art gallery, tea rooms and an array of activities in the grounds, so plenty to see and do. This shot shows the southern front of the range of buildings that forms the centre.

What a beautiful setting. It looks very restful though perhaps busy at some times of the year.
Hope your cold clears soon.

Nice row of what we would call townhouses here in Canada. Interesting history and I must say, they made good use of these buildings. Feel better real soon.
