Some animals can be very friendly. This blackbird flew towards me and landed at my feet while I was sat on a bench in a wildflower area at the edge of Hutton le Hole. It walked around a little and then flew up to the bench next to the one on which I was sitting. By this time I had slowly raised my camera to catch this shot.
The wildflower area was once a piece of waste ground with rubble hidden in the undergrowth. Local volunteers cleared the site and scattered wildflower seeds and put in two benches. It's now a lovely quiet place to rest while waiting for the Moorsbus to bring me home to York.
I'm surprised you got that close to a blackbird. here they seem very skittish and when you get a bit closer to them they take off. Your resting place sound peaceful and I bet beautiful with all the wild flowers.

This shot shows the value of a powerful zoom. My current bridge camera has a x60 zoom (20mm to 1200mm), so I could get a really close shot even though I'm sat around 10ft (3 metres) from the blackbird.
Sadly there have been a big disea here on them that have reduce the amount of them badly.
