The building featured in this shot is Bradford City Hall, which is surrounded by City Park. The large pool is the aptly named Mirror Pool. Surrounding the pool is a large paved area with benches and seats, and beyond that are galleries, cafes, a library, and other shops. The whole area forms a nice focus for the city centre.
The creation of this park started in 2011, and it was oficially opened on 24 March 2012 with an all-day celebratory event.
There is a slightly raised Y-shaped walkway which allows visitors to walk over the pool in relative dryness, while appearing to walk on water. Access to the water is encouraged and there are 40 low-powered play fountains at the pavilion end of the pool. In summer it's a super place to sit and people watch.
Well, I'm really overwhelmed by all the comments and favs for this shot. I am really grateful to you all!
What a different six days makes. I was back in Bradford today, and yes there were glimpses of the sun, but rain and hail were the main features, and it was very cold. The pond had also been drained.
