Film crews have been busy in York this week, filming scenes for the second series of the BBC series Gentleman Jack. The top two shots show vehicles used in scenes shot near St Williams College. The lower two shots show setting up in progress outside Fairfax House in Castlegate.
Gentleman Jack is a historical drama television series created by Sally Wainwright. Set in the year 1832 in Yorkshire, it stars Suranne Jones as landowner and industrialist Anne Lister. The series is based on the collected diaries of Lister, which contain over four million words and are written largely in secret code, documenting a lifetime of lesbian relationships.
There is a blue plaque commemorating her in the entrance to the grounds of Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate.
A lot of work going on to set up the props for the filming. I don't see much English language tv, I see mostly Italian tv but now I am interested in something like this.
Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.
I think filming of this series restarted around the end of October, and there are stringent Covid-19 rules in place to allow it to be done safely.
Series one was very successful, so it was hardly a surprise that a second series should be produced. Much of the filming has been done in Halifax, at Shibden Hall. Before Covid-19 it created a mini boom of visitors to Shibden Hall, which is a museum.
The TV series sounds interesting, hope it comes to Australia.
