It Rained and it Rained... by fishers

It Rained and it Rained...

It rained and it rained and rained and rained,
The average fall was well maintained,
and when the tracks were simply bogs,
It started raining cats and dogs.

After a drought of half an hour,
We had a most refreshing shower,
And the the most curious thing of all,
A gentle rain began to fall.

Next day was also fairly dry
Save for the deluge from the sky
Which wetted the party to the skin,
And after that the rain set in!

The weather isn't great today, so I pointed my camera at our front garden and got this shot of the bud of a Queen Elizabeth rose. It has suffered a real soaking and is probably now too waterlogged to flower properly, so here it is, enjoying a brief moment of fame!

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.

I don't know who wrote the poem. It was one that Lucy learnt at school and which she loved quoting when we went on country walks and the weather turned wet!

@fishers It appears to be anonymous - I found one version that renders it as two 8 line stanzas with the addition of the following four lines:

We wondered what's the next we'd get,
As sure as fate we got more wet.
But soon we'll have a change again,
And we shall have a drop of rain.

@vignouse

Fascinating - I will forward those four lines to Lucy, she will be pleased!
