While at York railway station last Saturday to see the steam train, I spotted this new diesel train waiting to take a southbound service.
It's decoration caught my eye. This vehicle carries the name Key Worker, while other vehicles carry the words 'NHS We Thank You' and '#Proud to be Helping'. This is one of a number of ways in which support has been shown for Key Workers over the last 15 months. Some trains can be seen with painted face masks over their fronts, while others carry rather more elaborate decoration in support of Key Workers.
The railways had their services drastically cut in April last year, but they still ran with relatively few passengers because of the lockdown. However, some of those who did travel were essential workers - doctors, nurses and a whole host of others who had to work despite the lockdown.
Rail services are returning to normal, and Katharine and I have been planning our first trip by rail in over a year.
Lovely to see. Our public transport colleagues were also "key workers" of course; without the transport infrastructure none of us would have survived the lockdown that well! A great shot.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
The term 'Key Workers' covers quite a range of people, from those who work in medical facilities and care homes, to supermarket workers and transport workers. To all those who put their lives at risk during the pandemic, we thank you all.
