Well, I didn't expect to be back posting quite this quickly, but after I arrived at Rotherham hospital to see my mother, it turned out that she had made something of a recovery. I was allowed to visit her on Monday, but since she is no longer considered at immediate risk to her life, the normal Covid-19 rules are back in place, and she is only allowed one named visitor - my brother who lives much closer to the hospital than I do. It seemed a waste of time to stay longer, so I'm back in York, but ready to go back to Rotherham if needed. Thank you to all of you that sent her good wishes.
Now to todays collage, and it is two shots of the same buildings taken just over two years apart. The small shot on the left shows the after effect of a fire at the Shop On The Green at Hutton le Hole on the southern part of the North York Moors. There was considerable damage to the roof and upper floor, and I think there was considerable doubt if the business would survive.
Forward to last weekend, and the buildings have been renovated and redesigned, with the left half being living accommodation and the right half being the shop and cafe, rather than the upper floors being living accommodation and the ground floors being shop and cafe. There is also a hatch to serve refreshments without the need for customers to enter the shop - an important consideration in these pandemic days. The interior of the cafe / shop is surprisingly large.
The changes blend in well with the character of the village, and I'm pleased to say that there was a steady flow of customers and that the cafe seems to be as popular as it ever was.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It was good to see that this business was back open and that there were customers making use of it. It must be hard to sustain a business in such a rural area.
