Wymondham Market Cross by foxes37

Wymondham Market Cross

The original building was destroyed by the Great Wymondham Fire in 1615. They replaced it two years later with a stilted building as a deterrent for floods and rats. Apparently they nailed live rats to the outside of the Market Cross until 1902. Some of my ancestors lived here many years ago.
I don’t like rats but not a nice way to treat them. Interesting looking place.
