During WW2 my dad was a flight engineer in the Pathfinders flying Lancasters, often at night, on raids into Germany. He talked little about these days. I wished we had talked more but he died in 1987. He was very very brave but I did not realise quite how brave until too late. He was deeply troubled by his wartime experiences I think.
