Helvellyn is a mountain in the English Lake District, between the lakes of Thirlmere and Ullswater.
It is the third-highest point both in England and in the Lake District, the scenery includes three deep glacial coves and two sharp-topped ridges on the eastern side (Striding Edge and Swirral Edge).
Today a friend and I walked to Red Tarn, a small lake beneath Helvellyn. Here Ian is pointing At Striding edge, at his back is Helvellyn, and to his left is Swirral edge.
It was a fantastic days walking, and very exhillarating. The weather conditions up there were:
Temperature minus 4.8°C
Wind chill minus 16.4°C
Maximum wind speed 41mph
Average wind speed 33.9mph
Wonderful! Your friend was well wrapped up; I trust you were too - the conditions look relatively 'dangerous' if you didn't know what you were doing! You obviously did! Super shot.
Great shot , I thought of Hillary straight away, I love the names you have for Hills in Northern England , Tarn and Fell the whole Wainwright sort of thing,
