I was astonished to hear about the huge decline of our bird populations since 1970.
Tree sparrow -95 per cent
Corn bunting -88 per cent
Willow tit -78 per cent
Spotted flycatcher -77 per cent
Woodcock -74 per cent
Starling -71 per cent
Turtle dove -71 per cent
Song thrush -56 per cent
Bullfinch -53 per cent
Skylark -52 per cent
Looks like we're heading for bird free environment!
This shot is another composite of three of my own images.
Nice processing and yes it is a growing problem, we are seeing fewer house sparrows, thrushes, and blackbirds in our garden. With an upsurge of magpies and pigeons not the best of choices to have!
I heard that about the sparrow's when i was in the UK.That really surprised me. In NZ we're also losing a lot of birds, and there is a big push on eradicating predators. My paddock is currently full of turkey's that have been driven up the road due to housing developments.
A lovely composite image ,and yes it is a sad story as regards to our feathered friends - Is there any wonder when there is so much buildings erected on all available land !. I must say I have quite a healthy flock of sparrows , a few blackbirds , robin but haven't seen a song thrush for a few years ! ( OK !! I also allow the wood pigeon or two to feast , paddle in the border and clear all the seed droppings ! )
yes...sad numbers...everywhere it would seem. Although I read recently the one place in the world where the migratory wading birds are thriving is North Korea. I fear for the future of our wildlife.
Beautiful composite work! The birds are doing ok here- but I wouldn't be surprised that all the building that is going on with the attached infrastructure work hasn't affected them in some way. Loss of habitat is probably the biggest factor. It's time to find some creative ways where we can have the best of both worlds (although I'm all for less building first!).
love this! i enjoy composite work myself as a total novice but never feel i can create a beautiful piece of art like this. the declining figures are very sad to see
Great composition and editing! FAV!
Since more farmers, in the USA anyway, have changed they methods of farming we have seen in my area a deplection of honey bees too. Now that noticably more farmers don't deep plough their fields but instead use Roundup to kill vegitation then they kind of scrape the top soil and plant seeds, all the Roundup or glyphosate usage seems to be killing off much needed wildlife. I have no idea if this has reached Europe or not.
