Yesterday morning, after a day and night of rain, rain, rain and high winds, the sky cleared briefly and this early morning moon peeked out for a few minutes before being hidden again behind clouds. When I got this off my camera I was surprised because it looks like the moon is hanging in front of the tree branches which, obviously, it is not. I understand that the branches were closer and so not in focus but why can we see the branches on either side of the moon but not the ones in front of it? It's a bit of a mystery to me although I guess it might have something to do with the brightness of the moon compared to the darker blue sky.
