What are you doing up there?

It's quite common for me to see a great blue heron standing around the edges of the pond fishing, but this is the first time I've seen one perch in a tree. Somehow, it looked strange to see such a large bird perched on a rather small tree but, he seemed quite comfortable there and stayed for a long time.
They often perch in trees. In fact they build their nests up there

@stevejacob I have seen them in trees in Florida. But around this little local pond I’d only ever seen them actually in or beside the pond. They seem to only come here to fish and so far not to nest. I often see them arriving at the pond early in the day and then leaving later on. I assume they must nest and spend the night elsewhere, maybe somewhere with slightly less dense population?

Yes they definitely don’t look like they belong in a tree; I love seeing them that way.
