Over the last week or so the changes in temperature have turned the soft powdery snow, from a couple of weeks ago, into corn snow which was slowly melting, as we moved just slightly above freezing. I took this picture of the edge of it on the back door mat.
@kvphoto Corn snow forms when powdery snow goes through a few cycles of thawing slightly (usually during the day) and then refreezing (usually overnight). It ends up turning into something resembling clusters of little ice pellets.
