The jays and the cardinals all seem to be heading into a moult and it's not too pretty. This guy looks a little scruffy around the face and head and his tail looks odd, as if it has sort of stuttered, but over all he doesn't look too bad. Some of the jays have that bald headed vulture look and the cardinal is not a pretty sight.
