Saw this article last July 31st, from our local newspaper , and made me SAD. =(
So HOW TRUE IS THIS? Any doctor here?

ARTICLE:
MOTHERS, be forewarned. The next time you shop for plastic baby bottles for your son, make sure they don’t contain a “feminizing” element called Bisphenol-A. Studies have shown that even very low amounts of the chemical in the womb or infancy can turn male fetuses into gays.
Equally frightening is the medical claim that Bisphenol-A (BPA) also masculinizes female fetuses, this according to the Virginia Hopkins Health Watch.
A study published in the online edition of Reproductive Toxicology showed that exposure of female fetuses to BPA may like increase their breast cancer risk when they become adults.
On this alarming note, the Arugaan and Eco Waste Coalition have asked the government to adopt a precautionary ban on the use of BPA in consumer products, particularly in plastic feeding bottles.
“The heightened global concern over human exposure to BPA and the probable health effects even at very low doses should move the government into imposing a precautionary ban starting with BPA-tainted children’s products,” said Velvet Roxas, mother of two kids and representative of the Arugaan as well as the EcoWaste Coalition. “The toxic health threat from BPA-laced feeding bottles for artificial milk formula should encourage all mothers to feed and nourish their children with breastmilk, the most nutritious and ecological food for babies.” Arugaan and the EcoWaste Coalition stated that various studies have shown exposure to BPA even at extremely low doses can cause birth, reproductive, nervous and behavioral developmental disorders.
A fact sheet on BPA published by the EcoWaste Coalition explains that exposure to BPA and its derivatives come mostly from contaminated food.
As the ban on BPA is not yet in place, Arugaan and the EcoWaste Coalition encourage consumers to observe the following to prevent or reduce toxic exposure: Nourish your child with breastmilk, the most complete and first zero waste food. Go for exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and continue breastfeeding for two years and beyond. Go for cupfeeding or the giving of expressed breastmilk through cups as the situation requires (expressing is the taking of milk from the breast, without the baby suckling, by hand or with a breast pump).
Refrain from feeding your baby canned foods with plastic linings, which might contain BPA. Avoid polycarbonate plastic containers, usually marked “PC” or the number “7”; use safer alternatives such as glass, ceramics or stainless steel. Refrain from microwaving food and beverage in plastic or plastic cling wraps. Reduce consumption of canned foods as can liners may contain BPA; opt for fresh, natural and indigenous food instead. Check product labels and select the ones that say “BPA-Free.” Ask your retailer to offer BPA-free products.
I have heard of BPA causing cancer but I had no clue about it turning guys gay. Is that even possible. I am really curious to read your responses on this.
this is yet another article written by somebody that is both clueless and vile against gay people, it is only trying to say that being gay is not a natural thing but provocked by some outside source, I was born gay not because my mother dran from a plastic bottle but because that is the way mother nature, god and simply coincidence made me that way...
Wow, how are we supposed to know what is really factual or not with articles like this. I know for some time now they were saying that plastic water bottles can leak chemicals into the water and they were saying it was cancer causing. All these claims I believe are hypothetical and need to be considered with a grain of salt. I truthfully think there are many risks out there that we are not even aware of. They tell us that our cell phoes cause cancer in the brain to because of certain energy being emitted, our computer screens, electric power lines, and the list goes on. We might as well crawl into a hole.
I agree, there is no real evidence for articles like this. They use hedging techniques like, this MAY cause homosexuality. it COULD contribute to it. And in most psychological studies consumers tend to ignore these hedges and read those as, it DOES. Every so often I see an article and it usually makes me laugh, sometimes offends me, but always reminds me that science and statistics shouldn't be trusted a hundred percent of the time without question.
No doctor here ... About a year ago, I heard about BPA in baby bottles being linked to an increased risk of cancer. I hadn't heard about it being linked to anything else. As a cancer survivor, I was a little freaked out thinking that the baby bottles I used (which were on the list I saw) might cause my son harm. I don't know if this is a bunch of hype or not. The article does seem to have quite a bit of repitition about the need for all mothers to breastfeed, so that makes me wonder a bit about the impetus for this discussion. I agree with you that I would like more unbiased information. Great photo to spotlight this headline!
I too have heard bottles containing BPA can be harmful, as in causing cancer in lab rats, etc. They have pretty much eliminated all BPA in baby bottles as far as I know. But as far as saying it can cause male fetuses to be gay? That may be the dumbest thing I heard. i agree with Adry, this is just a article written by a moron. I love the fact that the person who wrote this penned "equally frightening...."(the second paragraph). Is is really that frightening that there will be another gay person? I think not.
"Feminizing" element? Oh my gosh - that is such a ridiculous article. I don't believe that writer has a brain in his head. STUPID is as stupid does or writes... I won't even dignify it with a rebuttal.
They make BPA-free bottles now, and pacifiers, and other stuff; they put it right on the packaging... BPA-free. Some bottle manufacturers (Dr. Brown's) even took theirs back, no matter how old, if you brought them back to the retailer. I think this scare started...two years ago? And that's when everything started changing. And I agree with Lori...this article is just sensationalized. Not necessarily a moron, but definitely just to move newspapers. BPA does cause some reproductive issues for both males and females, but like everything else in life, no one should lose sleep over it!

thanks everyone for your comments..... A BIG HUGG from ME .. =)
ugh, that is ridiculous, it makes me angry that people still promote this kind of thinking just to get a shock headline. What the hell paper is that? It's disappointing that such crappy, backwards 'journalism' is still printed.
I was struck by the fact that the headline equates homosexuality with cancer. And that the BPA is to blame, but mothers can stop cancer & homosexuality by breastfeeding. Well, we knew mothers were to blame for everything, didn't we?
I've heard that bisphenol is toxic, but as a 'feminising agent'? Really? And EVEN if it does have that effect, it would not cause someone to be gay... homosexuality is so much more complex than that!
Newspapers are always after sensations... I don't know how true that might be, but they always blow stuff out of proportion... On the other hand. there's toxic agents in almost everything now - it's sad what the world has become... What happenened to living closer to nature?
I'd love to know which homophobe freak wrote that--what a waste of journalism classes (that's my writerly point of view, sorry, I'm sputtering right now)
everyone lets move on..... lets put a BIG SMILE n our FACES... LIFE is BEAUTIFUL! .... thanks to all of your comments and concerns.... I LOVE YOU ALL!!!! ( group hugg) =)
