Sundot kulangot -- a native candy from the Philippines composed primarily of coconut jam enclosed in wood orbs, which are in turn held by bamboo sticks. This one measures about 9 inches in length.
It's sweet, soft and a bit tacky! A rough literal translation of the title would be candy boogers! Not to be taken literally, of course! :D
Sundot Kulangot came from the Summer Capital of the Philippines, the City of Pines, Baguio. Name can be deceiving because underneath the not-so-good label with a bad connotation in mind, Sundot Kulangot is a must-try delicacy.
It is made of water, glutinous rice flour, and lemon molasses.
To cook Sundot Kulangot, boil 1 gallon of water in a small vat. Add rice and cook until soft consistency is attained. Pour molasses little by little and stir until sticky. Fill cleaned, split pitugo shells with the mixture and seal with crepe paper and glue.
I have never seen these before. I've never even heard of them. O.O Haha! They intrigue me. I must try them next time I go to Baguio. Whenever that is. :P
Anyhow, great photo! This could be Baguio's official ad for Sundot Kuangot, hahaha! No really! I love it. :D
