We were out for a walk this afternoon and my husband spotted this bird perched on a dead tree at the edge of the lake. I approached carefully and was able to get several shots before it flew away. After downloading the images we researched online and this bird appears to be a juvenile peregrine falcon. The markings on this bird match the online images and the same with the descriptions in the Audubon Field Guide and All About Birds-Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Needless to say, I am quite amazed that we just happened upon this awesome bird while out walking. This was definitely one of those times I would have appreciated having a 600mm lens.
Nice viewed on black if you have time.
What a great experience and an amazing capture Gayle. It is such a striking picture and I love the way you can see the claws clinging on to the twig. never mind the 600mm lens, you got this beautifully.
