I've noticed a lot of these small butterflies around lately so today I decided to get a close-up shot so I could actually see what they look like and try to identify them. They don't stop long in one spot before they are quickly off to a different location so I was quite happy to get this shot, although a bit disappointed that I cut off the tip of the wing. It took a while but I finally identified this butterfly as a Reakirt's Blue . . . a tiny butterfly with a wing span of only 3/4 - 1 1/2 inches (2 - 2.9 cm).
I don't really notice the cut off tip. It is a lovely butterfly and a lovely flower too. I think these are the same as the ones I saw in the Judean wilderness just the other day. Bright blue on the other side of the wings.
