In Johnson City with Aunt Normale by gaylewood

In Johnson City with Aunt Normale

I spent the day with my aunt who lives in Seguin, Texas...about 40 miles from San Antonio. I took her to the cemetery where my grandparents and great-grandparents are buried to check on their plots. Checking on the plots regularly to make certain everything is in good order is extremely important to my aunt. The cemetery is in Johnson City, about 70 miles from Seguin. I gladly volunteered to take her because she no longer drives and it's difficult for her sons to make the trip because they live in Dallas. The last time I took her was in November and that day we had to do a lot of weed-pulling and trimming. Today everything was in good shape. My parents are buried in San Antonio and I visit their plots regularly but before our visit in November, I hadn't been to this cemetery in Johnson City since I was quite young. Now I'll be taking my aunt on a regular basis and when she leaves us, I'll probably take over the responsibility of checking on the family plots in Johnson City.

2018 Photo Journal, Day 9
That's wonderful that you can do that for your Aunt. When I am in Illinois, I visit my parents graves. It is a peaceful time that I can spend remembering. I never thought I would be one to visit a cemetery but it does give one a place to think, remember, be sad, happy and thankful. I am glad for that. This is a special photo of you and your Aunt, Gayle.

@harbie Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, Harbie. I can honestly say this is the first time I've been photographed at a cemetery and I felt a bit strange setting up the tripod and camera there but I wanted to get a photo that represented what I did today with my aunt. :-)

a very special photo and I am sure the knowledge that you will continue to look after the graves has given your Aunt a great sense of peace.

A lovely photo of you with your aunt, and how nice that you can help her in this way. It's very reassuring, I think, for folks to check on burial plots. I know my dad goes down regularly to visit my mum and tidy the area around her grave, and I never go home without checking up on her myself.

@louannwarren Thank you so much, Lou Ann! Her name is pronounced "Norma-lee". She is my father's younger sister and my only aunt still alive on that side of the family.

I looks a very neat and tidy cemetery. So nice you are able to take your aunt. I actually don't know where any of my relatives beyond my grandmother are buried so its nice to have this.
