Inspired by @milaniet Milanie's recent in-flight hummer photos, every day this week I've been trying to get some clear in-flight hummingbird shots and finally today I was successful in getting a few acceptable photos. I won't mention how many blurred hummer images I've deleted this week. In the process, I did learn that it's easier to get this type of shot using a feeder without the little perches so they remain in motion while they're feeding. Also, using a tripod makes a huge difference in maintaining a steady focus.
Hummingbirds are amazing little creatures and I thoroughly enjoy watching them and spending time getting photos of them. I'll keep working on improved in-flight shots and I'd also like to get some photos of them feeding at flowers.
Thank you all so much for your very supportive comments and favs on yesterday's cardinal photo. I feel certain there will be many more to come.
Really nice capture, Gayle - that eye and feet are so clear - and I know what you mean about how many discards there are to get that good one. Worth it though, isn't it! Congratulations! Fav
It's wonderful. If your camera will let you, you might be able to cheat (this is how I get butterflies in flight but don't tell anyone!) video & take stills. There is free software which you can experiment with if you cannot extract stiils using the camera's firmware.
