country inn

Open-air museum ‘Ellert&Brammert’ in Schoonoord.
“I am in a wonderful country”. That's what Vincent van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo in 1883. This country was Drenthe, the province in the Netherlands where I live.Up until today, the province breathes the spirit of years ago. Marvellously preserved megaliths, prehistoric graves and more, invite the tourist to take a step back in time.
This step can be taken at the “Ellert and Brammert” open air museum in Schoonoord. Situated in the Ellertsveld area, this museum brings the past of South East Drenthe back to life. A number of different homes and buildings reconstruct life in the region; there are turf huts, and the collection also includes a Saxon farmhouse, a toll house, a school, a church and even a prison. There is this old country inn where you can enjoy a snack or a drink. A playground and a children’s farm complete the museum.
Once the giants Ellert and Brammert used to raid the surrounding area. Now they are standing at the entrance of the museum to attract the eye of the public. In the cave of the two robbers, part of the legend is depicted using three-dimensional scenes.

Mooie uitleg over de provincie en een mooie foto van dit prachtig gebouw doet de rest.

A beautiful building to house the Pub/ Café , and wonderful to have these open air museums . They are so educational and reminds one of their past The Welsh have a huge open air museum in Cardiff S Wales - the National Museum of Wales - You can take a whole day to go round the whole site where old buildings , farmhouses , chapels ,churches etc were brought from all parts of Wales and re built brick by brick on the site . We also have a smaller open air museum here in Shropshire but it is more based on the industry of the area aas well as homes , schools - shops etc

Museums like this are so necessary in this modern day. We must not loose our heritage, it's priceless. This museum looks very welcoming & pretty too. Sounds like it has everything to attract families for a good day out! I would never know that English was your second language Bep, you write beautifully!
