toll house by gijsje

toll house

This beautiful toll house dates from 1777. It was seriously damaged by a fire in 2013, but beautifully renovated.
It is situated near the city of Meppel in the south-west of our province.
Best viewed on black.
It does look much better when viewed on black! It’s so fascinating to see the architecture from different countries!

Lovely toll houses with their unusual architecture , the slope of the roofs is well defined and such a steep angle on them . So good that such properties are sympathetically restored

Does this toll house collect money to enter some place? We have a toll house near the Inn. You have to pay to go over the bridge, just wondering if this is the same? A very unusual shape of house.

That happened ages ago. You had to pay for yourself, your carriage, animal etc. before you got permission to enter the city of Meppel.
