Today would have been Sam's (an original brolly girl) 60th birthday. We gathered in Fletcher Jones Gardens, played her 2 favourite songs (The Voice by John Farnham & Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf ) and toasted her with Sambuca which once was her favourite drink :) When she diagnosed with terminal cancer her wish was to make it to her 60th birthday when her son would be 18 and her 2nd marriage would have been 20 years. Sadly this did not happen as she died 3 years ago, but her memory stays strong with us.
Always sad to lose a friend to cancer. I was diagnosed with cancer (which I survived) the same year my gf gave up her battle against her cancer and she was more upset about mine that year.
What zest for life, and what a lovely way to celebrate the birthday of your departed friend. She'd have been very proud of you all! I'm not a sambuca fan, but Meatloaf, oh yes!
