Another new duck for me! This is a musk duck and I was excited to find it. My sister wanted to see the swan families today so we went walking around Lake Pertobe. We had a great day - 3 swan families, 8 duck families and this newbie :)
Great capture. Really strange with that ball under the beak. Had to look it up and this is what it said about the neck. The male is decorated with a large bulbous lobe of skin hanging under his bill. This sac increases in size at the start of the breeding season. The female also has a much-reduced lobe on the underside of its bill, only visible at a short distance.
