Perching on Apollo by girlie

Perching on Apollo

Please view through magnifier. This was taken late in the afternoon, so the light was bad. Nevertheless, I can't leave it out as it's such a rare capture. I was walking through Hyde Park in Sydney on the way to the art gallery when we stopped by the Archibald Fountain. I heard a squawk and, looking up, spied this Sulphur Crested Cockatoo way above our heads, perched on the outstretched hand of Apollo. He sat there, happily squawking and preening for a good 20 minutes while people gathered to watch. It's so nice to see the native birds once more flocking around Sydney. When I was a young girl, all we got to see in Sydney were sparrows, seagulls and pigeons, probably as a result of the clearing of the native trees and plants from the early years of European settlement. That has all changed and now we are seeing the results.
wow! perfect timing photo! awesome!

Fantastic!

Excellent! It looks like that's exactly where the cockatoo is supposed to be ~ reserved seating for cockatoos. It would seem that a cockatoo or some other bird had also been perched on Apollo's head at some point. So good that Sydney is seeing a return of it's native birds. Wonderful capture, Robin!

That IS a great capture, and I love how the green in the background angles up the same as the water spray and the arm, all leading to the bird. So nice.

This looks like those two have really made a connection. Looks great magnified.

Robin, you have been the most lovely, generous follower and so much fun at times too. I have just loved your project and the passion and beauty that you have shared. Thank you so much. Sadly, I have to focus elsewhere right now, so have decided to take a long, probably permanent break from here. However, if you let me have your email I will still do my utmost to get the castle shots.

Big warm wishes

Nice shot. I also experienced the cockatoos on a recent trip to Sydney. In the Botanic Gardens/ Mrs Macquaries Rd, they come in large numbers to be hand-fed. At one stage I was there with one on each arm and one on my head!

Quite a capture. I like the expression on Apollo's face almost seems like he's interacting with the Cockatoo.
