Done and dusted!

I've finally finished my 365 Project. First, I would like to thank those very many of you who have sent kind messages of appreciation recently as this day approached. After much inward wrestling, I've decided not to continue with the daily upload as I have some pressing personal projects that need attention. But I will occasionally post a photo that I think is worth sharing, so this is not the last you'll hear from me. In the meantime, the above celebratory collage is a small representation of some that I've posted over the year. It's by no means exhaustive. First, I'd like to thank my trusty old p&s Canon Powershot G7, which has never let me down: highly recommended. I'm amazed when I look back and realise what I've made myself do in order to bring you some of these photos. For instance: I've stared down dingoes, the odd scary duck, angry geese and very big dogs; I've allowed a snake to crawl along my arm; I've stood amongst crowds of bees and wasps just to get that one hoped-for cracker of a shot; I've stalked wallabies through snake-infested bush; I've got up close and personal to big (and small) kangaroos, goannas and angry wild black swans; I've crawled around, underneath and behind big spiders, shoving my camera up close with one hand while holding the web aside with a stick in the other; I've spent days stalking butterflies and dragonflies, with very limited success; I've photographed frogs in toilets and joeys in pouches and have stood underneath a smelly colony of flying foxes, trying to get the perfect shot, while dreading a possible fusillade of toxic droppings. These are just some of the things I would not have imagined doing just 12 months ago. The lessons I've learned have been many, one of which has been that what I see as the ordinary and everyday in this part of the world is often viewed as exotic and even weird to those elsewhere. So I've expanded my repertoire of shots enormously, thanks to all you good people. And the biggest joy in all of this has been the daily viewing of all your delightful photographs and the personal communication and friendships made with many of you along the way. I have even been fortunate to meet two of you and enjoy some joint photo-shooting. I hope those of you who've been inspired by my photographs to plan a trip to Australia will follow through with those plans and get in touch with me when you do. Also, for those of you who think I might be able to help ID something, or just want to share a particularly good shot you think I might like to see, just send a message on one of my old photos and I'll be pleased to respond. I am just an email away. So for now, adieu!
A lovely farewell collage. The very best of good luck with your next project and I look forward to your occasional visit to 365 in the future. It has been a joy to view all your photos and very nostalgic for a semi expat Aussie!

Oh, Waaa! I will miss your extraordinary contortions which never failed to result in stunning images! After my trip to the Equator, I'm thinking more and more about traveling further afield. It will be a while before I can afford to go as far as Australia, however. But thanks to you, all my senses are tuned toward your continent. I even saw a bottlebrush tree last week...which, of course, made me think of you. But its blossoms weren't nearly as beautiful as your depictions of them. Thank you for your loyal and steadfast comments and encouragement. Best of luck to you on the projects that are leaning on you.

Wonderful collage, BTW. Where ever will I get my "roo" fixes now?

Wonderful collage!! Glad to hear you will stop by on occasion & I'll look forward to that. You've been such a great, loyal & encouraging follower. I'll miss your daily posts, sense of humor & tremendous knowledge.

In answer to your question about the street painting festival, it's done in chalk locally. My understanding is that "street painting" dates back to the 1600's in Italy & they probably used paint back then. In the 1970's, these festivals started popping up in Europe where they were more of a competition. Here it is a fundraiser & the artists either pay themselves or get sponsors. The chalk(paintings)drawings will just fade away........

Robin, I am so excited for you. What an amazing job you have done on your project!! I can honestly say that I saw more interesting things and learned more information in the few short months that I have known you than I did during my entire time in high school. Now, that could have something to do with maturity, but I think it has more to do with presentation and the level of interest of the information presented. You are just a wealth of knowledge. Thank you so much for all of your support. You have been amazing. I will look forward to seeing you now and then, and good luck on your projects. I will always hold you dear to my heart.
