Buttress roots by girlie

Buttress roots

I always check out these wonderful buttress roots on my friend's Black Bean tree when I go to visit. Had trouble hacking my way through the rainforest to get to it this time, so not such a good shot. Aside from ticks, mosquitoes and pythons, there were also the first stirrings of poisonous snakes in the garden, so I didn't stay long, just enough to get this not-so-good shot. A better one here http://365project.org/girlie/365-3/2011-03-17 if you'd like to check it out. The Black Bean is a huge tree native to the rainforests of tropical Australia.
wonderful light here in the rainforest!

Unbelievable, it was worth the shot. Hope you didn't get bit by anything. I've never seen a tree like this with these kind of roots.

I like the shot, however it is a bit creepy. The roots look like the bodies of huge pythons. Great find

This is fabulous! I'd be torn - wanting to see those incredible roots and not wanting to encounter any poisonous creatures. Maybe if I were encased in full riot gear...
