Get lost! by girlie

Get lost!

This is much better with the magnifier. Not great quality as I had to zoom a long way with the little point and shoot but I enjoyed watching the interactions between this Noisy Miner and Laughing Kookaburra high on the wires outside the cinema I attended yesterday. The Miner probably had a nest nearby and did its best to move the Kookaburra. The kookas are carniverous and take young birds from nests, so are greatly to be feared. The miner ultimately failed to move it and flew away while the kookaburra's partner joined it on the wire, where they sat laughing raucously. Kookaburras are very large birds and eat snakes, lizards, small birds and small mammals. They can be very daring around an outdoor barbecue; one snatched a sausage from my fork years ago. Their laugh is very distinctive: loud and prolonged, full of trills and warbles and cackles.
Fabulous Robin, you really captured the sequence of events well! The minas are really feisty little birds to take on the Kookaburras!

So THAT's a Kookabuurra! My favorite appetizer at the Outback restaurant is the Kookaburra wings. Mmmmmmmm!

@cromwell What!!?? You can't be serious...

@girlie I suspect chicken wings LOL Not much meat on a Kookaburra!
Love this picture, the desperation of the smaller bird and the clear nonplussed attitude of the Kookaburra shows why it is feared!
