I was lucky to be already seated on my front porch when this young Scaly-breasted Lorikeet dropped into my callistemon for a bit of supper. These lorikeets are less common than the Rainbows and less noisy. They also chatter when eating but they do it in a sort of mumble rather than a shriek. Their name comes from the pattern on their chests that you can just see here. I took a number of shots but liked this one in which its beak is just closing in on the juicy part of the flower. The red in the background is my son's car which goes with the overall colour scheme of the parrot but is a bit distracting, unfortunately. Much better if you enlarge with the magnifier.
Wonderful capture! It took me a second to spot the lorikeet as he's so perfectly matched to the callistemon leaves. The vibrant red background makes this a super cool composition!
Love it - the lorikeet in the leaves reminds me of one of those fabric prints where the elements of the pattern are carefully interlocked. Even better on large view.
