'Please, not behind the ears, Mum!' by girlie

'Please, not behind the ears, Mum!'

These are two of the wild kangaroos that I visit occasionally at nearby Little Bay. Kangaroos are excellent mothers. This one's joey has only recently left the pouch (see how big she is in comparison to her mother). Mum kangaroo still inspects every inch of her daughter to make sure she's clean and bug-free. After cleaning her ears for her, she set about stroking and licking all the fur on her back. She has a tiny baby in her pouch, not yet ready to greet the world, and she left off occasionally to lick the pouch opening and nuzzle the tiny new one.
Great captures!

@worldbiking Thanks, Amaya. If you come our way during your travels, I'll take you to Little Bay to get amongst the kangaroos there. They are getting used to me now.

Such an endearing shot Robin. Great parenting.

Oh, isn't that the sweetest thing?
I had no idea 'roos were such good mommies. Although I suppose you'd have to be if you'd let your half-grown child with size 22 feet live in your pouch.
They must be so much fun to watch. I love the collage showing us the behavior.

( I don't know how 'size 22' translates down under, but it would be REALLY big. LOL)

beautiful shots and description of the maternal care provided by a kangaroo - i didn't realise this level of grooming existed. For some odd reason it made me think of mum my brushing my hair and pulling it into two plaits for school every morning
