Swan Island bridge by golftragic

Swan Island bridge

I was visiting an old friend at Queenscliff today, her house faces right on to this scene. Wow, if only!

The bridge goes over to Swan Island which has two occupants, a golf course and, would you believe, a top-secret SAS army training base for our toughest soldiers. Each would like to get rid of the other, but can't. There is a guard-house just out of picture left. Anyone going over the bridge, golfer or military, must stop there to have licence plate plus reason for going to Swan Island recorded. Cars are similarly checked off when exiting the bridge.
What an interesting pairing! I think I know what captivates your interest! Who doesn't love a home with a water view?!

Lovely shot and view. I love Queenscliff. The security checks bring back memories of our own military life.

Neat shot - everything you need - the view, the golf course and lots of room for Maggie to explore. Hard to believe that the golfers and SAS share the island...

@Weezilou I'd love a water view Louise, but no chance unless a truck-load of money falls on me. So I'll just have to enjoy my mate's view.

@onewing It's a bit twee for my liking nowadays Babs, I preferred the old somewhat shabby Queenscliff. I think the security checks are hilarious. My mate's house is right on the corner by the guard-house, and the staff there keep her mail and and a close eye on her house.

@dide You're right, it's a most peculiar pairing, but one that goes way back into history so far as I know. The SAS keep a very close watch on what's going on though you never see them whilst playing golf. But if someone gets over a fence into their land they'll be nabbed pdq.

@joansmor Thank you.

@ninaganci Swan Island is in Swan Bay, and there's heaps of swans there, hence the name. The pairing is quite peculiar though historical.

I really like the bridge -- the sweeping lines are quite graceful

@taffy Thanks Taffy, it's fun driving across the bridge and the causeway it leads to, some fabulous water views. Just have to make sure not to point a camera at anything related to the SAS presence.
