Bendigo railway workshops

Bendigo has a number of railway workshops, mostly from the steam era, all built in detailed brickwork like this building. VR in this case stands for Victoria Railways, not Queen Victoria. The workshops have an interesting history, link attached.

@annied Thanks Annie. POV dictated by bloody chainmesh fence with spikes on top! Sometime in the future I'll get organised enough to see if the powers-that-be will let me get a bit closer. Don't like my chances though, there's a whole bunch of rail-lines in there, some of which are very much in use.

@graemestevens Many thanks, as I said to @annied the POV was dictated by the bloody fence.

@onewing Thanks Babs, I just love old buildings like this. Nothing much to love about concrete tilt-slab stuff.

The arches with the brick texture really works well.

@golftragic You would love some of the old buildings in Newcastle.

@taffy Thanks Taffy. I'd give my eye-teeth to get inside that damned fence!

@onewing Now that's a thought. I've only been there once and that was at around 30 years ago.

@golftragic I agree - my husband used to lay bricks for a living and is in awe of this type of workmanship- all without computers or laser levels. Not to mention cranes etc.

@golftragic We've even got a gaol at Maitland too. You'll love that.
