Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque, courtyard by golftragic

Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque, courtyard

Internal courtyard. For more information see links below. I discovered this morning this extraordinary place cost $US545 million (ten years ago).

what an amazing space

@andifree Thanks.
November 14th, 2016
@annied Thanks Annie, dunno how they keep that surface so shiny.
November 14th, 2016
It looks amazing, but the cost makes your eyes water doesn't it.
November 14th, 2016
@onewing Sure does, and the money was a gift from Sheik Zayed! Enough money to fund a small country I'd reckon.
November 15th, 2016
@onewing @golftragic it is astounding the money out there - and spent on such decadent pursuits

@annied I guess the oil makes some people so rich they don't know what to do with all that money. The Gini coefficient won't be very informative about inequality, immigrant labour wouldn't be included, not citizens.

That much wealth and extravagance is beyond me! It's simply beautiful, without a doubt, but I've got to read what you've thought of the opulence of Dubai!

excellent again, great reflection
November 15th, 2016
Overwhelmingly beautiful. Fave

@graemestevens Many thanks, it's so shiny gotta look twice to make sure it's not water.
November 15th, 2016
@ethelperry Many thanks Ethel, the photos don't do it justice.
November 15th, 2016
Such a huge expense, it's hard to imagine. But it looks amazing.
November 15th, 2016
@golftragic I was thinking that when I first looked. They must spend a fortune on cleaning.
November 15th, 2016
@888rachel It is, absolutely gob-smacking. A must-see if/when you're in that part of the world - even with the damned head-scarf and rest of the medieval dress-code (for women!!!!).
November 15th, 2016
@golftragic got it : ) Thx!
November 15th, 2016
@golftragic Okay -- email me as well! This is quite incredible to have seen in person. And to think it isn't particularly historic, right? A new structure in the style of the old? Wonderful image of it!
November 15th, 2016
@taffy Will do Taffy, when I receive Louise's email. 82 domes, 1000+ columns, 24carat gilded chandeliers, thousand of Swarovski crystals in chandeliers, main chandelier 10m wide and weighing 12 tonnes, world's larges hand-knotted carpet.
November 15th, 2016
@graemestevens Probably not, immigrant labour does all the dirty-hands work.
November 15th, 2016
@golftragic No great surprises there...
November 15th, 2016
@graemestevens Didn't think so.
November 15th, 2016
How incredibly beautiful, but such expense! A lovely image to share.
November 15th, 2016
wow! impressive! I am sure he feels he has heaven on earth in this place! everything so white and clean,
November 15th, 2016
@dide Absolutely correct, on both counts!
November 15th, 2016
