PS Gem by golftragic

PS Gem

Never out on the river any more, the paddle-steamer Gem is permanently moored at the Pioneer Settlement (museum), Swan Hill. The bollard idea was probably copied (borrowed?) from Geelong's many bollards.

Great shot of a bygone era Marnie! I can image going up and down the river on this Gem. It certainly looked stunning in it's heyday

A gem of a shot :)

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was that the bollard reminded me of the Geelong bollards. I love the paddle steamer

Beautiful old paddle steamer. Your Geelong bollards are fabulous. I need to get back there sometime to check out the ones we missed when we visited Geelong a couple of years ago :)

Beautiful paddle boat- I'm glad it was preserved at this museum. I think I'd enjoy taking a ride on one of these.

@ludwigsdiana It is in good nick Diana. Not sure if this still applies, but there used to be a quite reasonably restaurant on the Gem. As for going out on the river, there's a second paddle-steamer at Swan Hill. The Pyap does go up and down the river.

@gilbertwood Boom, boom!

@onewing I'll bet. I didn't have time to check around up there, and couldn't find anything online unfortunately. Certainly not Jan Mitchell, she's long dead.

@merrelyn Oh, I do hope you do get to Geelong sometime Merrelyn. It would so great to have a meet-up and photo day out.

@olivetreeann Yes, so good to see these things preserved for posterity isn't it?

@golftragic It would be great, but I can't see it happening this year.

Being a history buff, I love to see and explore historical things up close.
