Cremation

Who needs a funeral director? The river serves a wide range of purposes.
I have heard about this- seen it in movies- but here it is in real life. I guess in more populated areas it would be harder to avoid the funeral parlor- but here not so hard. Good shot!

The Indians always like to do this! Seen it in Fiji.

@olivetreeann We were all gob-smacked at the scene. From the look of that bank it's a popular place for cremations.

@taffy We couldn't believe what we were seeing at first!! Once again, this shot is taken from a fair way away, but wouldn't have wanted to intrude anyway.

I saw a documentary about Hindu funerals and cremations a while ago. It must have been interesting to see it for real though. I definitely wouldn't be washing in that river now after seeing buffalo in the water and now the remains of people too,

It takes quite some time for the body to be consumed and there is such an art form to getting the temperature hot enough in the pyre. What a fascinating scene to witness, it's very moving.

Well caught. This is also part of life!

@ludwigsdiana I very much doubt it.

@onewing Together with a lot of bodily functions too, of course. No way would I even dip a toe in there.

@haskar Yeah, you're right, the cycle of life and death.

What an evocative image - what a scene to see as you float by.

@robz Yeah, a bit confronting too. From the look of that bit of the river-bank it's a popular spot for cremations.
