Lighting the way

Once you've got your helmet, the next thing is a light to attach to it, plus a battery pack on a belt round one's middle. No light at all down there otherwise, pitch dark.
That would certainly be nothing I would venture to do. Great shot of all the utensils needed.

@ludwigsdiana It wasn't scary at all.

@annied I reckon you'd love it.

Must have been quite an adventure

Love this picture. Conveys a strong sense of the place

Love the organized chaos in this.

It raises so many questions - where on Earth are you going?

Feeling claustrophobic - nice edit in this

It's sounds like a great place to visit but I don't think I would like to work down there day in and day out

@photographycrazy Many thanks

@casablanca I didn't see any on offer, but then again it's not a coal mine.

@onewing Sure was Babs, we had a good time down there, but an hour and a half was quite enough, thank you.
September 10th, 2019
@domenicododaro Thanks Domenico. I'd never given a thought to how we'd be able to see down there!

@taffy You've hit the nail on the head with 'organised chaos'. In actuality everything and everyone is very carefully counted in and out at several check-points.

@robz Just what we were thinking Rob.How are you faring in the fires?
September 10th, 2019
@samae Funnily enough, it didn't feel claustrophobic down there and I don't usually like small cramped places.
September 10th, 2019
@robz Into the bowels of the earth, mate. Or so it seemed.

@golftragic Hi Marnie - as it happened we were on the GC for the worst of them. They have been terrible - it was just the work of the incredible Rural Fire Brigade and the aerial support they got that saved so many properties. It could have easily gone straight through town. Blooming scary to see on TV!
September 10th, 2019
@robz Good news to hear your place is OK, the scenes on TV are downright terrifying, as you say. Les has just left for a week on the GC with her daughter, fingers crossed any smoke has disappeared, she's asthmatic.
September 11th, 2019
@golftragic The smokes not so bad today - pretty clear in fact - so hopefully Les will be OK. The wind is blowing on shore too so that helps a lot. :)
September 11th, 2019
@robz Thanks for that info Rob. She should be there by now, so fingers crossed.
September 11th, 2019
Hats off, no way would you get me down there!!
