Mandurang Methodist by golftragic

Mandurang Methodist

The old Methodist (later Uniting) church at Mandurang (8 Km S-E of Bendigo). Built of local stone and opened in 1872 the lovely old stone structure is no longer in use.
Wonderful building, pic!!

The door is so surreal, Make you wonder what is like when you gone through.

@photographycrazy Thanks. It's just sitting out there, in the middle of nowhere.

@yaorenliu I'll post a closeup of the door tomorrow I think. Lovely old building, it's a shame it's just been left unused. Make a lovely small home.

Lovely shot and wonderful textures. Such a pity it is not in use anymore. It sure has a beautiful door too.

Beautiful old building! Most old Methodist chapels over here have been converted into homes now. This would make a great conversion!

@ludwigsdiana Thanks, it's a lovely solid old building.

@pamknowler Just what I thought to myself, said Pooh. Probably got a heritage order on it or the like!

Love the stonework.

Probably built by the Cornish during the gold rush. It would have been obligatory to attend chapel, and no heating inside in those days. Brrr.

What a shame it is no longer used. It is beautiful

What a pity it isn't converted to a quaint cottage :)

Beautiful

Nice b&w that emphasizes the clean stonework

I very much like the small door that leads you into a larger area-lots of symbolism and wonderful captured. Looking forward to its close-up

@jgpittenger It's such a beautiful old building, so sad it's just sitting out there doing nothing. The structure looks sound so far as I could see so it'd make a wonderful home when converted.

@jgpittenger Forgot to say thank you for the fav.

@onewing @momamo @etienne @haskar @fbailey Thanks to each and all of you lovely people, I appreciate your comments. It's a very attractive old building.

@ethelperry You could well be correct Ethel, it has that stern look of an old-style chapel and there would've been plenty of Cornish people around at that time.

@casablanca @gilbertwood It would make a wonderful house conversion. Probably got a squillion heritage overlays etc which would be a pain to deal with.

@joysabin I'll post the shot today, but I fear it's not the closeup you'd like.

@golftragic The Cornish miners at Moonta in SA were obliged to go to chapel whether they liked it or not. They all had their regular pew and the shift boss could spot who was missing. There would be hell to pay, wages deducted....but boy, could the Cornish sing. As a girl growing up in Broken Hill, I still attended a service of Cornish Christmas Carols each year. That old church is now a tourist attraction.

What a lovely building - beautifully taken Marnie. This reminds me of my Great Aunt. She was a Methodist till the day she died (at age of 97) - never a Uniting Church member!

What a beautiful old building - wish someone would do something with it - looks awesome on black

@robz The Methodists were a pretty dour lot. I went to a Methodist secondary school.

@samae I completely agree Sarah.
