Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque by golftragic

Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque

Probably the most ornate and opulent building I've ever seen in my whole life. Has to be seen to be believed. The extensive building is all built of pure white marble with real gold decorations. Absolutely amazing.
Fabulous FAV

Amazing reflections and shapes. This place wants some tap-dance shoes. :)

@777margo Many thanks Margo. It is a truly fabulous building.

@andifree Thanks Andrea, not too sure the authorities would be too rapt in anyone doing that.

@graemestevens Many thanks, incredible (literally) place.

@jgpittenger Thanks Jane.

@rosiekerr Thanks Rosie, it was an extraordinary place to walk around, wonder after wonder to see and photos definitely allowed. Dunno about the tap-dancing, you should've seen the get-up we women had to don to get into the place, and then people keeping any eye on you everywhere just in case. One really good point though, no problems with cameras.

Here's my funny journey I just took. I thought, Oh this reminds me of being in the cisterns in Istanbul. Sure would like to see that photo again. (searches through 365) Here it is! Oh, my, this was year one. I thought it was such a great photo. I could do so much better now. http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-01-18

@jyokota I've never seen anything like this place, and probably never will. I'll post a link with today's shots but just double-checked the cost of this project - a cool $US545million.

@taffy Thanks Taffy, it's an absolutely extraordinary place - and no serious restrictions on photos.

@jyokota Oh yes, there's a close structural resemblance. You're spot-on about 'doing better' after several years on this site, I've learnt one heck of a lot since my first outings.
