Ulumbarra 4

I didn't explore the interior of the open cell, very foreboding, threatening and cold.
I would have had nightmares if I went in!

Not surprising. These cells are quite a bit smaller than the ones at the old Geelong gaol and I thought they were small.

very foreboding .. don't blame you for not going in .. I would be scared stiff that the door would slam behind you .. I will be putting up a shot in the next few days of a Jail/gaol on Pitt Island ... not quite so scary ..

@julzmaioro Not too worried about that really. Just too occupied getting a clear shot between people passing by.

Well find. Strong processing evokes such feelings as you wanted to receive. Fav!

Your edit really portrays menace :)

Now that sends a chill down the spine. There's a cell in Alcatraz that you can go in and the audio guide has the voice of the inmate who spent 25 years there! Even worse, the cell is only 5' square so he couldn't lie stretched out in bed.

Oozes atmosphere ...

Reminds me of Nelson Mandela's cell on Robben Island, small and uncomfortable, but at least his had a window and light. I would not want to go inside this one!

The processing really portrays a sense of dread.

Oh my- those doors are the stuff nightmares are made from. Wow!

@gilbertwood Oh yes, exactly the right word Denise.

@777margo Definitely!!

@onewing @fbailey @hermann @merrelyn @dibzgreasley @olivetreeann I found the whole place had a very interesting ambience, not at all oppressive or unpleasant. The architects must've been very talented to have achieved that in such a place. The lighting is unobtrusive but welcoming throughout.

@vignouse There's one of those cells here too, though I think it's an actor doing the voice bit. I was primarily interested in how much of the old structure remained and what had been done with/to it.

If it wasn’t a prison I’d say how great it is. Mirrored architecture and nice textures.

@dide It would be more accurate to call it an arts centre now Dianne. Amazing place, doesn't feel at all like a former prison.
November 3rd, 2018
Yes, better stay out of there...

@domenicododaro Absolutely!!!

Gives one pause. The strength of those doors. Even the sound that must have been made when they were closed. I'd stay clear of the inside too. Love the textures and clarity.

@joysabin Makes a chill run up my spine every time.

Does not look very inviting. But a great shot and beautifully edited!

@jerome The conversion from gaol to community arts centre is brilliant. You'd have to see it to believe what the architects have pulled off. I'm just hoping that the old Geelong Gaol, a similarly grim place, receives the same treatment. All digits crossed.
