What a huge statue and it's lucky to still be there, I guess.

Queen Victoria had a granddaughter called Maud, who was reported to say, "Don't be silly Grandma!". A sassy young lady. This story persuaded us to keep the name of our rescue dog, Maud.

She does look very grand. There is a statue of Queen Victoria in Piccadilly Square in Manchester and one year the Rag Day students (Rag Day is an annual event where university students do silly things for charity) painted footprints in red paint from the statue to the ladies public toilets at the end of Piccadilly gardens, down the steps, into the toilet and back again to the statue.

Very huge statue! Great shot.

She does look very impressive- and quite removed from her subjects which I'm sure she was! Statues look so good in black and white- great shot!

@dide Not really, the Sri Lankans seem to honour statues etc of QV as part of their long history.

@onewing That is sooo funny Babs, great prank. I know all about Rag Day. When I first went to Melbourne Uni in the early '60s Rag Day was celebrated there at the end of, I think, second term with a parade through Melbourne then, variously, a rotten fruit/veg/flour fight between several faculties; a 'football' match with a half-bag of cement plus that year's inventive way of defacing the nude Zeus statue outside the Bailleau sports centre. That one caused an edict to come down from on high that any student caught 'painting, polishing or removing Zeus's bits would be expelled. Rag Day inevitably involved some pretty rough on-campus brushes with the police too.

@gilbertwood I can't remember for sure, but I think she's outside the SL National Museum which is, itself, set in extensive grounds.
