Humayun's tomb by golftragic

Humayun's tomb

UNESCO-listed, absolutely magnificent, said to be the antecedent of the Taj Mahal. And, far fewer people there which made the whole experience far more pleasant.

what a magnificent structure!

@annied I thought so Annie, in fact I was more moved/struck/impressed by this structure than I was with the Taj Mahal. The air was somewhat cleaner there on that day so the views were better and the lesser crowds allowed easier viewing and movement. Leaving aside my loathing of crowds, my wonky undercarriage doesn't cope with moving through crowds of people going every which way but loose.

@golftragic I'm not a fan of crowds either

@annied Although born and bred in Melbourne, I left there in the mid-1960s and have lived in the (real) bush or Geelong ever since. My skin crawls and my BP goes ballistic in crowds.

Truly a beautiful piece of architecture. I can see why you preferred this to the touristy alternative!

@olivetreeann Oh definitely so Ann, far more pleasant and easier to really take relatively undisturbed time to enjoy. I guess I'm outta line, but I think this ranks with the TM.

@golftragic No, I don't think you're out of line. Perhaps the nationals may not feel it is as notable, but I think the picture says it is.

I despise crowds too. What a wonderful structure

A stunning building And so well captured! I am with you on the crowds front!

@jgpittenger It certainly was a good day out - apart from the inevitable crowds. I didn't enjoy India one little bit, too many people, pigeons, pigeon poo and poverty.

@pamknowler Having lived either in very sparsely populated places or a fairly laid-back regional city since my early 20s I'm accustomed to a lot of personal space.

This is beautiful to see and quite unknown to me! I'd rather see it here than actually be there though! Like you, hate queues and loud people and buses and buses!

@maggiemae Wish we'd done that. We only went to India because Les had always wanted to see the Taj Mahal. She did but didn't enjoy it in full because: (a) she was pretty ill by then; (b) the polluted air made her worse and the visibility poor; and (c) she didn't like the seething masses much better than me.
