Kolkata: Flat out

Always confronting to find these men asleep in places like this.
The wide angle distortion of his feet is awesome. Not sure what you mean by “confronting “ maybe a spell correct?

Those feet look very hard working

Such a hard life that most people couldn’t comprehend.

@jgpittenger No, confronting, that is to me. Finding someone asleep in the sleep pulls me out of my comfort zone and makes me think.

@fbailey I'll bet they've done many miles and hours of hard labour.

@moviegal1 Thank you.

@dide You're right, really makes you very aware of your own privileged life.

Excellent street shot. Really makes one consider the many ways that people make their way in the world.

A great street shot, makes on wonder how they get through their daily lives.

You've gotta catch a nap when you can :)
April 1st, 2019
I do hope he is just asleep. I bet he works so many hours that he has to catch a few zzzzzz's when he can.

I would find it confronting too. On taking a closer look I wonder if he was on a long break because the wheel appears to be padlocked to the cart.

It is a confronting image Marnie - the background tells a story too - why was your group on this area?
April 1st, 2019
@rosiekerr Absolutely right Rosie, makes you very grateful for what we take for granted - and often whinge about.
April 2nd, 2019
@ludwigsdiana From hand to mouth, doing any work available.
April 2nd, 2019
@gilbertwood Especially when you're exhausted.
April 2nd, 2019
@onewing You're right Babs, no cushy jobs here.
April 2nd, 2019
@merrelyn It may well not be his cart. I noticed all carts, bikes etc had heavy padlocks on them.

@robz We went to see the Kain Temple (which I can't remember), the Marble Palace (no photos, lots of stairs 👎) and walk through Kumartuli 'India's only potter's town'. Funny sort of pottery work IMHO, everyone there was busy making religious statues of various kinds. These statues of straw and clay are designed to be put into the river/s to be washed away as a kind of offering. Weird.

You have to be pretty exhausted to sleep like that. Such a hard life! But you treated the shot with dignity. Good job!
April 2nd, 2019
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann, I really wanted to record street life as I saw it.
April 2nd, 2019
Sounds like not one of the better days on your holiday. I suppose they can't all be super dooper! :)
April 2nd, 2019
@robz Nah, not the most memorable of days Rob. Much of the problem comes down to two things: I walk slowly and get left behind; and taking photos as we go is at least, and probably more important to me than the destination.
April 2nd, 2019
I wonder if they actually have a bed and a house to sleep in? Or maybe they just work so hard during the day that they need an afternoon nap whenever they can grab it?
April 2nd, 2019
@gigiflower Quite likely he has no home, or what we'd recognise as such. And then, of course, he may also be just so exhausted he needs to have a sleep. What a life.
April 2nd, 2019
@golftragic We are very lucky living in Australia.

Great street shot. Lovely pov.

for a second, I thought he was, well, not alive...
