Open house

I thought this was very funny. Old Geelong Gaol.
Nice to share a laugh with us!

@taffy Glad you enjoyed the juxtapositional joke.

This is so funny, an early morning smile and lovely shot.

A most lighthearted find. The little extra of the interior door being open is fabulous.

Taking new admissions...

@ludwigsdiana Glad you enjoyed the joke.

@joysabin Hopefully waiting for people to go on a tour of the Old Geelong Gaol. It's a grim place.
July 28th, 2019
@graemestevens Maybe, fancy a holiday on HM there?
July 28th, 2019
@golftragic I have doubts about it being up to my standards
July 28th, 2019
@graemestevens You surprise me, it's extremely grim, very grungey and said to be haunted. Even got a gallows.
July 28th, 2019
Ooh come inside! No I think I’ll pass by thanks! Great image Marnie - made me smile!
July 28th, 2019
Well find. Made me smile. I am a bit like Matryoshka doll!
July 28th, 2019
@pamknowler It's Ok so long as you can walk out again - as we can. Can't say the same about the maximum security prison not too far away!!
July 28th, 2019
@haskar So pleased you enjoyed the joke.
July 28th, 2019
Taking in new customers!!!!!! Ha ha :)
July 28th, 2019
nobody seems to be going near it! 😁
July 28th, 2019
Well spotted, but you wouldn't get me in there. I am sure I must have been locked up in a previous life, ha ha.
July 28th, 2019
Newcomers are welcome :))
July 28th, 2019
I thought my English is pretty good but it is not! I couldn’t follow the joke until asked my husband! Its hilarious 😂
July 28th, 2019
Even knowing it was a tourist attraction, you wouldn't get me through those doors! Have you been inside?
July 28th, 2019
@gilbertwood Looks like it. A bit chilly at this time of year methinks.
July 29th, 2019
@summerfield No, they're hardly inundated with takers. The Old gaol is open for tours (or individual wandering round) on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Staffed by Rotary volunteers so your money does go to something useful.
July 29th, 2019
@onewing I've been there and will do so again, didn't have time the other day. So long as the doors are open I'm OK with it all, it's a very grim place and bloody freezing in winter with thick bluestone walls and tiny open barred windows in the cells. Very Pentonville.
July 29th, 2019
@merrelyn Yeah, and if they misbehave there's always the option of HMP Barwon, the maximum-security slammer not too far away.
July 29th, 2019
@angelikavr Sorry to have confused you, glad your husband was able to help out. Your English is excellent BTW.
July 29th, 2019
@fbailey Oh yes, and will be back there again. It's a fascinating place. I'm fine so long as the doors stay open, as they do. It was built in the nineteenth century and has a long and chequered history, in use till the 1990s. Built on the Pentonville model, thick bluestone walls, open barred windows in the cells, very grim. But very photogenic.
July 29th, 2019
Yikes! Not going in there. Great framing. Wonder how it would look in b and w with some grunge?
July 29th, 2019
@jgpittenger A good suggestion thank you. I'm planning a visit there in the near future, so will save up that idea till I have more to choose from.
July 29th, 2019
😂👍
July 29th, 2019
@golftragic It piqued my interest sufficiently to Google it - lots of deaths there and ghosts apparently!
July 29th, 2019
@fbailey Deaths? Yes, a number of men were hanged there. The gallows is still there, complete with ply-wood cutouts of the appropriate characters nearby. As for the ghosts, a local company runs night-time tours. Never let a commercial opportunity go by!

@momamo Glad you liked the joke.
