Signs of our times Mk 2: Sept 19

City of Greater Geelong council campaign to patronise local biz.
What a great sign, I hope it helps.

I hope so too Diana. We already do that anyway.

Let’s hope it encourages people to do this. I am definitely shopping local now for meat - I go to our local farm shop and the meat is all from local farms. Tastes so much better and less air miles. It may be a bit more expensive but definitely worth it! I hate that we can buy everything all year round now! I used to love the Christmas season for the oranges and other delights. Now they come from all over the world and can be bought at any time - nothing is special any more! Oh dear you set me off! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@pamknowler I'm with you re this one Pam. I buy our meat from a local butcher (who can tell me where it came from), and as much as I can of other foodstuff from the local whole-foods store which sources as much as possible locally. If they can't do local, they do Australian, and only import products where there's a good reason and almost certainly organic. I also check labels in the supermarket to see where stuff comes from, and try to buy Aussie if at all possible though Kiwi is OK too. I'm the dotty old bird peering at labels with the magnifier on my iPhone. Oh, and I agree with you re seasonality, though Oz is so big that almost all produce is grown somewhere here. Plus, of course, my back-yard vegies I've been working on.
